enjoying the class.. ^^

today was our last class for MGT 420.. :)

alhamdullillah.. everything goes well..
and without  realised it comes to the end of the semester..
time flies too fast..
Our last topic for last class today is total quality management...

Total quality management or TQM is an integrative philosophy of management for continuously improving the quality of products and processes.TQM is based on the premise that the quality of products and processes is the responsibility of everyone involved with the creation or consumption of the products or services offered by an organization, requiring the involvement of management, workforce, suppliers, and customers, to meet or exceed customer expectations.

The Primary Elements of TQM

Total quality management can be summarized as a management system for a customer-focused organization that involves all employees in continual improvement. It uses strategy, data, and effective communications to integrate the quality discipline into the culture and activities of the organization.
  • Customer-focused. The customer ultimately determines the level of quality. No matter what an organization does to foster quality improvement—training employees, integrating quality into the design process, upgrading computers or software, or buying new measuring tools—the customer determines whether the efforts were worthwhile.

  • Total employee involvement. All employees participate in working toward common goals. Total employee commitment can only be obtained after fear has been driven from the workplace, when empowerment has occurred, and management has provided the proper environment. High-performance work systems integrate continuous improvement efforts with normal business operations. Self-managed work teams are one form of empowerment.

  • Process-centered. A fundamental part of TQM is a focus on process thinking. A process is a series of steps that take inputs from suppliers (internal or external) and transforms them into outputs that are delivered to customers (again, either internal or external). The steps required to carry out the process are defined, and performance measures are continuously monitored in order to detect unexpected variation.

  • Integrated system. Although an organization may consist of many different functional specialties often organized into vertically structured departments, it is the horizontal processes interconnecting these functions that are the focus of TQM.
    • Micro-processes add up to larger processes, and all processes aggregate into the business processes required for defining and implementing strategy. Everyone must understand the vision, mission, and guiding principles as well as the quality policies, objectives, and critical processes of the organization. Business performance must be monitored and communicated continuously.
    • An integrated business system may be modeled after the Baldrige National Quality Program criteria and/or incorporate the ISO 9000 standards. Every organization has a unique work culture, and it is virtually impossible to achieve excellence in its products and services unless a good quality culture has been fostered. Thus, an integrated system connects business improvement elements in an attempt to continually improve and exceed the expectations of customers, employees, and other stakeholders.
  • Strategic and systematic approach. A critical part of the management of quality is the strategic and systematic approach to achieving an organization’s vision, mission, and goals. This process, called strategic planning or strategic management, includes the formulation of a strategic plan that integrates quality as a core component.

  • Continual improvement. A major thrust of TQM is continual process improvement. Continual improvement drives an organization to be both analytical and creative in finding ways to become more competitive and more effective at meeting stakeholder expectations.

  • Fact-based decision making. In order to know how well an organization is performing, data on performance measures are necessary. TQM requires that an organization continually collect and analyze data in order to improve decision making accuracy, achieve consensus, and allow prediction based on past history.

  • Communications. During times of organizational change, as well as part of day-to-day operation, effective communications plays a large part in maintaining morale and in motivating employees at all levels. Communications involve strategies, method, and timeliness.

MGT 417

we had reached to the last chapter for the subject today..
allhamdulillah..
allah did ease everything.. :)
the last chapter is about planning for maintaining information system..
Project planning is part of project management, which relates to the use of schedules such as Gantt charts to plan and subsequently report progress within the project environment.Initially, the project scope is defined and the appropriate methods for completing the project are determined. Following this step, the durations for the various tasks necessary to complete the workare listed and grouped into a work breakdown structure. The logical dependencies between tasks are defined using an activity network diagram that enables identification of the critical pathFloator slack time in the schedule can be calculated using project management software. Then the necessary resources can be estimated and costs for each activity can be allocated to each resource, giving the total project cost. At this stage, the project schedule may be optimized to achieve the appropriate balance between resource usage and project duration to comply with the project objectives. Once established and agreed, the project schedule becomes what is known as the baseline schedule. Progress will be measured against the baseline schedule throughout the life of the project. Analyzing progress compared to the baseline schedule is known as earned value management. The inputs of the project planning phase include the project charter and the concept proposal. The outputs of the project planning phase include the project requirements, the project schedule, and the project management plan.

today is....

THURSDAY READERS!!

today class was begun at 2pm as class for MGT 420 has been cancelled due to Mr.Hazman has something important to do..hehhehe.. :)

ECO 415..
today we did learn about unemployment..  Unemployment or joblessness occurs when people are without work and actively seeking work. The unemployment rate is a measure of the prevalence of unemployment and it is calculated as a percentage by dividing the number of unemployed individuals by all individuals currently in thelabor force. During periods of recession, an economy usually experiences a relatively high unemployment rate.

There are several types of unemployment, each one defined in terms of cause and severity.

Cyclical

Cyclical unemployment exists when individuals lose their jobs as a result of a downturn in aggregate demand (AD). If the decline in aggregate demand is persistent, and the unemployment long-term, it is called eitherdemand deficientgeneral, or Keynesian unemployment.

Structural

Structural unemployment occurs when certain industries decline because of long term changes in market conditions. For example, over the last 20 years UK motor vehicle production has declined while car production in the Far East has increased, creating structurally unemployed car workers. Globalisation is an increasingly significant cause of structural unemployment in many countries.

Regional

When structural unemployment affects local areas of an economy, it is called ‘regional’ unemployment. For example, unemployed coal miners in South Wales and ship workers in the North East add to regional unemployment in these areas.

Classical

Classical unemployment is caused when wages are ‘too’ high. This explanation of unemployment dominated economic theory before the 1930s, when workers themselves were blamed for not accepting lower wages, or for asking for too high wages. Classical unemployment is also called real wage unemployment.

Seasonal

Seasonal unemployment exists because certain industries only produce or distribute their products at certain times of the year. Industries where seasonal unemployment is common include farming, tourism, and construction.

Frictional

Frictional unemployment, also called search unemployment, occurs when workers lose their current job and are in the process of finding another one. There may be little that can be done to reduce this type of unemployment, other than provide better information to reduce the search time. This suggests that full employment is impossible at any one time because some workers will always be in the process of changing jobs.

Voluntary

Voluntary unemployment is defined as a situation when workers choose not to work at the current equilibrium wage rate. For one reason or another, workers may elect not to participate in the labour market. There are several reasons for the existence of voluntary unemployment including excessively generous welfare benefits and high rates of income tax. Voluntary unemployment is likely to occur when the equilibrium wage rate is below the wage necessary to encourage individuals to supply their labour.

ACC 418
we learn about bank statement and cash book. Cash book is usually refers to a statement from the bank showing the activity in a company's checking account. The statement includes the deposits received by the bank, checks paid by the bank, bank service charge, and other amounts transferred into and out of the checking account. A cash book, or petty cash log, is a ledger for keeping track of small cash purchases. Some small businesses such as restaurants find cash books especially useful because these companies tend to need small quantities of easily available supplies to make up for unpredictable shortfalls. Others, like tech companies, usually use their cash books less frequently because they are less likely to have urgent needs for tangible items that can be conveniently purchased at a location such as a corner store.

back to normal... T___T

ACC 418:
we did learn about adjustment of account..hmmm.. it is really tough one.. waaaaaaaa!! i'm gonna cry.. i can't understant the concept..waaaaaaa!!! isk3!!! :(

Accrual accounting focuses on recognizing income and expenses in the period when they occur, not necessarily when you are paid for them or issue the payment. For example, you recognize the expense when you order a sign, not when you pay the invoice. You may pay for services in advance, such as an annual premium for your insurance policies. Post these transactions to your ledger properly to ensure that your financial reporting is as accurate as possible.

Recognizing Prepayments

  • When you make advance payments, recognize the reduction in cash immediately because the payment reduces your cash account. For example, when you pay an annual premium in advance for an insurance policy, post the entire amount to your prepaid insurance expense account, and then credit your cash account to reflect the reduction in cash from the payment.

    Recognizing Expenses from Prepayment

    • Amortizing prepaid expenses properly ensures that you recognize the expenses for the month in which they apply. For example, when you prepay an annual insurance premium in the first month of the policy, recognize the first month's expense after you post the payment to the prepaid account. At the end of the month, post an adjusting entry to recognize one month's expense. Divide the total premium by 12 to obtain a monthly rate. Credit the prepaid insurance account and debit an insurance-expense account for the amount of the monthly premium. Repeat this during your closing entries each month until the premium is due for renewal.

      MGT 417

we did learn about chapter 8
in chapter 8 is about Transaction processing system (TPS) monitors, collects, stores and processes data generated from all business transactions..Batch Processing is when the firm collects data from transactions as they occur, placing them in groups or batches, then prepares and processes the batches periodically (say, every night).Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) is when business transactions are processed online as soon as they occur.Source data automation involves collecting data from sensors (e.g., barcode scanners) and entering the data directly into a computer without human intervention.
Functional area information Systems are designed to support a functional area by increasing its internal effectiveness and efficiency in the following areas:
    Accounting
    Finance
    Marketing
    Operations (POM)
    Human Resources Management
•provide information mainly to lower- and middle-level managers in the functional areas via a variety of reports.
